Modifications to Baskets on Insulated EWP’s

The Association has become aware of situations where Fibreglass baskets on older Insulated EWP’s are fitted with an insulating liner or are fully enclosed to improve electrical insulation.

Older model EWP’s were fitted with an opening or escape hatch to enable access to an incapacitated operator and to effect their rescue. If the basket is fully enclosed or fitted with a liner the EWP must be fitted with a system to enable occupants to be rescued from the basket in the event of an emergency. This is normally achieved by a basket tilt system. Owners must ensure that a means of emergency egress is provided as required by AS1418.10, and that insulating liners are only fitted to EWP’s that are designed to accommodate one.

Advice on any modification should be obtained from the manufacturer or competent person.
